our history

KWTFA is the oldest established track and field club in the Region of Waterloo. In January of 2008 we celebrated our 42nd year of athletic training. We are a not for profit minor sports association affiliated
with the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. Both cities contribute finances to offset the cost of running our programs which are available to any athlete between the ages of 8 and up. We also include athletes with disabilities through our FasTrack Program.

The primary objective of the club is to give each athlete a positive experience in sport by providing them an opportunity to develop their individual talents and athletic skills. Our coaches have a progressive approach to athletic development which allows young people to achieve their athletic goals in a positive, encouraging environment. This community- based non-elitist approach has provided us and our athletes with short and long term results that are well renowned.

Our coaches have conducted over 40 training camps and workshops in the USA as well as been members of Olympic coaching teams. One of our long standing members, Brent McFarlane, was the Head Track and Field Coach for the Sydney Olympics. All of our coaches are certified volunteers.

Our Club is run by a duly elected Board of Directors and governed by a constitution approved by city officials. Our financial statements are audited on a yearly basis and presented for ratification to the parents and athletes once a year.
